“City Entrance West” dialog process completed

One year of engagement in the two-phase, competitive dialog “Stadteingang West”, Berlin. The “Stadteingang West” planning area and its core area, the former Grunewald freight yard, are located between the railroad tracks and AVUS, ICC and Grunewald. This area is one of the last large development sites close to the city center. The conversion of the Funkturm highway junction opens up the opportunity for the capital to develop new districts at the “Stadteingang West”. Against this backdrop, the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing Berlin 2021 opened a two-phase, competitive dialog to which selected international offices were invited. The task: to develop an urban planning master plan for the 45-hectare planning area.
Our vision: “Stadteingang West” is the vision of a city that creates identity by continuing to write history. Away from fragments and towards a networked living space – green bands of landscape connect the four districts. This changes the perspective from fragmented infrastructures to networked places and creates a sequence of green open spaces and stepping stones. Historically significant local landmarks serve as identity anchors and create livable districts and neighborhoods around them.
We are proud to have been part of an international field of participants and congratulate the planning team Hosoya Schaefer Architects AG and Agence Ter with Burckhardt+Partner.
