The new building represents the Federal Republic of Germany in Sofia with elegant restraint on the outside and communicative candour on the inside. The chancery building of the German Embassy is a solitary building in a park. As a clear-cut cube, the building features no projections or recesses. Only the entrance is marked by an incision, which at the same time naturally forms the canopy.

The architectural clarity of the building is the result of a grid that is consistently adhered to from the supporting structure to the facade layout to the finishing. The strict geometry of the façade is interrupted to the north, west and south by large signature elements. This translates the building concept of the interior into a narrative element of the façade, making the inner structure of the building recognisable: As an extension of the inner circulation zone, each floor has a lounge area with a balcony and large window front, which – like a passe-partout – offers a framed view of the city and, from the top floor, a view of the mighty Vitosha Mountains on the horizon. This creates open sequences of spaces that provide places for interaction and dialogue.
