1st prize for new building at the Waldstraße Grammar School site in Hattingen

As was the case last year, we have much to be excited about in the run-up to Christmas. In addition to two first prizes, we have also received two honourable mentions within the space of a few days. These include first prize for the design ‘New building at the Waldsraße Hattingen grammar school site’, which we developed in collaboration with A24 Landschaft and schlaich bergermann partner.

The school grounds are closely intertwined with the Hattingen district. The new school complex takes up this approach and develops an overall concept for the extension and new building as a complement to the existing school ensemble.
The individual buildings, each with their own identity and functionality, stand freely on the site but are connected to each other – similar to the neighbourhood – by the design of the intermediate and open spaces, which offer a high quality of stay.
The structures are predominantly made of wood and, where necessary, supplemented by CO₂-reduced concrete components.
