3rd rank in the “Allmandring I Urban Development” Competition
July 2026
We are very pleased that, together with Koeber Landscape Architecture, we were awarded third place in the “Allmandring I Urban Development” competition.
The Allmandring I housing complex in Stuttgart-Vaihingen was built in 1976 and consists of 925 residential units in 33 buildings. The complex is now to be gradually demolished, redeveloped in phases, and adapted to meet the new needs of students—only the building at Allmandring 8a will remain.
Our design focuses on a clearly defined urban boundary along Allmandring. This boundary mediates between the large-scale Physics Institute buildings and the small-scale residential structure within the neighborhood. The buildings create a tranquil setting along the street and are grouped into distinct courtyard communities. The existing student club “Boddschamber” will be preserved and framed by a complementary new building.
The jury particularly highlighted:
“The urban structure allows for a high degree of permeability through the green space starting from the second layer of buildings and provides numerous views into the valley.”
Many thanks to the competition team for this design!
