Recognition in the realization competition “Königstraße 1ab, Stuttgart”
June 2024
Our entry has received recognition in the “Königstraße 1ab, Stuttgart” design competition. Our idea: The Königstraße building as the entrance to Stuttgart’s city center is of particular importance in times of climate change. In the sense of a fundamental building turnaround towards sustainable, resilient and future-proof architecture, it must show that Stuttgart has recognized the signs of the times, stands for circular, resource-saving and climate-adapted construction and develops a new aesthetic with an unobtrusive naturalness. The existing building will be dismantled up to the ceiling of the second floor and completed as a lightweight timber construction. The result is a building without a rear side that opens up towards the train station, Königstrasse and the Theater and Schiller Passage. As an inviting gesture at the start of Königstraße, a walk-in city shelf is being created – a piece of vertical oasis in the city that responds to the arrival situation at the main station. It stands for openness, diversity and transparency.
