The Tunnel Club at the MHP Arena has been shortlisted for the BDIA German Interior Design Award 2026

June 2026

The BDIA German Interior Design Award is considered the highest honor for interior design in Germany and recognizes outstanding projects of particular design and social significance.

We are all the more pleased that the Tunnel Club at the MHP Arena is now on the shortlist for this prestigious award.

Created as part of the sustainable modernization of the MHP Arena for UEFA EURO 2024, Germany’s first Tunnel Club reinterprets the theme of soccer in a spatial context: Behind a deliberately understated entrance door lies an exclusive club area, traversed by a striking red ribbon that guides guests across three levels up to the stands. Organic lines of light, inspired by the players’ running paths, bring movement and dynamism to life in the space.

The proximity to the action is ever-present: the semi-transparent ceiling allows the stands’ structure to remain visible, while materials such as concrete, leather, real wood, and iridescent metal surfaces create an atmosphere that is both authentic and sophisticated. Subtle references to the club culture of the 1960s and 1970s, along with a playful nod to VfB’s team colors, round out the concept.
