Football stadium

Trabzon Turkey

Directly on the shores of the Black Sea, a landmark with a long-distance effect: A stadium as a symbol of identity for the city, the club, and its fans.

On an artificial peninsula west of the city centre of Trabzon, we planned a multifunctional stadium with a capacity of 41,500 spectators and the associated training facilities for the Turkish first division club Trabzonspor.

The comprehensive master plan envisages a sports hall and a tennis court for 3,000 spectators each, areas for hotels, restaurants, and leisure facilities as well as an exhibition centre with a congress hall, a business park, and a train and bus station.

The main design features of the arena: its integration into the landscape and its crystalline shell. Hence, the supporting structure developed for the stadium consists of a modular folding structure covered with a translucent membrane. The body of the stadium thus blends naturally into its context and the mountainous landscape and develops a characteristic long-distance effect.

The result is an identity-forming meeting place for Trabzon and its residents as well as for the fans.
