Arena with rotating PV system

The small EWE Arena Oldenburg is home to the Oldenburg basketball and handball professional teams. It is an integral part of the Weser-Ems trade fair and event center and serves as a central component in the enhancement of the previously overlooked south side of the fairgrounds. The arena has a capacity of up to 4,000 spectators. In addition to sporting events, the hall is used for stage performances, concerts, and as supplementary exhibition space.

.

A unique feature of the building is the mobile photovoltaic system: It changes its position in relation to the position of the sun. It serves not only to generate electrical energy, but also as a sunshade for the foyer behind it. This ensures balanced lighting conditions with natural daylight. Since its opening in 2005, the hall has received numerous awards for its sustainable design. In addition to the City of Oldenburg’s 2006 Cityscape Award and the 2006 Eurosolar Plaque, it also received the “PV in Construction” award.
