Hooray! We have won and are allowed to develop a new urban quarter for the city of Augsburg!
An attractive, sustainable and urban residential quarter with complementary commercial and social uses is to be created on the former production site of the Eberle company in the Pfersee district. The challenges: integrating the introverted site into the existing urban structure and opening it up to the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as occupying the listed building with new uses and moderately adding new buildings.
Our “Green edge – strong center” design meets these challenges with a robust development concept that demonstrates the gradual transformation of the site and enables sustainable living and working on the Hettenbach.
Our basic conceptual idea is based on a green edge that surrounds the district like a hem and opens up towards the center to form a district meadow. The adjoining quarter square with the identity-forming former production hall 13 and the striking factory chimney is a popular meeting place day and night thanks to its appealing first floor uses. The surrounding neighborhoods are linked to the new quarter via a dense network of footpaths and cycle paths – including footbridges over the Hettenbach. We are upgrading the listed industrial and administrative buildings through clever re-use and supplementing them with compact structures that are almost exclusively residential. Their location on the banks of the Hettenbach Canal enables a high level of residential quality and quality of life.
The jury praised our work as particularly convincing, robust and of high quality.
We are really looking forward to our 2nd project in Augsburg!
